Marriage Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your loving-kindness: according unto the multitude of your tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions towards you and my spouse and children: and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done evil in your sight: that you might be justified when you speak, and be clear when you judge. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part you shall make me to know wisdom… Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me… Restore unto me the joy of your salvation; and uphold me with your free Spirit…I lift up my spouse (and children) unto you and believe that vengeance is yours and yours alone. I trust in your wisdom and providence that you will take away our marriage troubles, conflicts and challenges, and renew in us the vows we took in your presence, and in the meantime, I sing your mercies and glorify your Holy Name.
Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in your faithfulness answer me, and in your righteousness. And enter not into judgment with your servant: for in your sight shall no man living be justified. For my spouse (children) has persecuted my soul; he/she has smitten my life down to the ground; he/she has made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate. I remember the days of old, I meditate on all your works and words; I muse on the miraculous work of your hands. I stretch forth my hands unto you: my soul thirsts after you, as a thirsty land. Selah… Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit fails: hide not your face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. Cause me to hear your loving-kindness in the morning; for in you do I trust: cause me to know the way where I should walk in this conflict ridden and capricious marriage; for I lift up my soul unto you. Deliver me, O Lord, from mine spouse: I flee unto you to hide me. Teach me to do your will in this marriage and emulate the marriages of the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, Isaac and Rebecca, Simon and Elizabeth as well as all your saints and elites, for you are my God: your spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Quicken me, O Lord, for your name’s sake: for your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of my marriage’s trouble. And of your mercy change the heart and mind of mine spouse and children, and in your will let all them that afflict my soul see your light and your providence: for I am your servant, I offer my prayer in Jesus Christ Name with communion of the Holy Spirit … Amen” (Psa 51 & 143).
